“If your house is really a mess and a stranger comes to the door, greet him with, ‘Who could have done this? We have no enemies,'” the comedienne Phyllis Diller once joked. Keeping your home clean can be a big chore — especially when it comes to floors, because, out of anything, they often receive the most traffic.
Sometimes, cleaning your floor is as easy as sweeping or mopping. At other times, though, spots can be very difficult to remove no matter what you do. If you’ve had to go up against some very tough spots, what can you keep in mind? Here are three tips.
1. Getting That Months-Old, Awful Stain Out of Your Carpet
Have you had a carpet stain since forever? According to Lifehacker, one way you can get rid of tough stains is by using an iron. Basically, for small spots, irons can be used as a sort of DIY floor steaming option. Spray the stain with a typical floor cleaning solution (such as a vinegar/water mix), then lay down a damp towel over the spot. Then, run over it with an iron set to the steam generic ultram online setting. Irons can also be used to remove hardened wax from carpets.
2. Getting Ink Out of Carpet
Were you working with your quill and parchment when you spilled ye entire ink bottle upon thy carpet? In reality, there are many ways ink might end up on carpet — not least among them thanks to pets chewing on pens. You can clean ink up using isopropyl alcohol. Dampen a cloth with the solution, and dab it — not scrubbing it — onto the spot.
3. Using Rubber Floor Cleaning Products
If you use rubber playground mats for your kids’ area, or for an athletic area, you might have found out the hard way that rubber can and does get dirty. In this case, you should use products specifically formulated for cleaning rubber. Why? Other cleaning solutions can potentially damage the rubber. It can help to first sweep the area, as this will remove tiny debris that, over time, can wear down on a rubber surface and dull it.
