Hot tubs and other spas are very popular in the United States. Nearly 21 million of them were in American homes in 2014. Some are outside or near pools. Other people have them inside their homes. If you have oave one or are considering buying one, you may be concerned with how much work it will take to maintain it. Luckily, experts recommend the following spa maintenance tips.

Spa Maintenance Tips to Make Your Life Easier.

  • Use an enzyme solution to keep it clean. If you want to keep your hot tub clean and bacteria free but do not want to use a lot of harsh chemicals, use an enzyme product often. Enzymes naturally break down organic material and make your hot tub sanitizer work for effectively and efficiently. They will also prevent the film from forming on the surface of your water, which is always a good thing.
  • Get rid of surfacce oils with tennis balls. get some used tennis balls and toss them in your hut tub. This is one of many experts favorite spa maintenance tips. The oils will collect on the balls so you can get a lot of it out of your hot tub easily. Just have a few floating in the water and any oils from people’s lotions and skin will cling to them.
  • Swich out some of the water more often. Rather than changing all of the water in your hot tub, consider changing about half of the water more often. This can be a great way to cut down on the number of total dissolved solids in the water. Many people only change the water when they have to and this makes a lot of sense, especially for people who live in colder climates. These partial water changes take a lot less time and efforts that when you fully drain the unit and fill it back up again.
  • Run your filters through your dishwasher. If you are looking for a way to get your spa’s filters super clean, try putting them in the dishwasher. This is a great way to remove any grease and other dirt that has accumulated in the filter with very little work and time. Make sure you place in on the top shelf of your drishwasher and turn off the drying cycle, which can damage the filter. You can use the normal cycle for the wash. Dishwasher detergent also works really well at ridding filters of stubborn grease.
  • Clean the jets with wite vinegar. It is cheap and can be used for a ton of stuff around the house. If you discover that your hot ub jets are clogged with a bunch of calcium, use white vinegar to clean then and get rid of the excess calcium. It will cut though it like nothing else.
  • Cover your spa when you are not using it. Out of all of the spa maintenance tips, this one of the easiest and one that many people do not even think about. Whenever you are not in the hot tub, it should be covered. This keeps the heat in (a really great thing if you live someplace cold), prevents excessive water loss from evapoation and keeps debris such as leaves and other random items from falling into it. It will also protect sensitive chemicals like bromine from being broken down from the UV rays from the sun.
  • Many people look for hot tubs for sale because they are relaxing. Spending time in a hot tub can also be beneficial for your health. New research out of Finland has shown that spending time in a hot tub can help live a healthier life. Experts recommend people do not sit in water that is over 104 degrees. That is according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Regardless of if you want to add a hot tub to your home for health reasons, some people enjoy a hot bath after a long work out or to help them get to sleep at night, or if you just like the luxury of having one at home, these spa maintenance tips will help you enjoy your spa once you have it installed.
